Mr. E: Come in quickly and close the door behind you! It is most imperative that I speak to you, Crinkle. We don’t have much time.
Crinkle: Who are you? How do you know my name? You seem to be expecting me.
Mr. E: You can call me Mister E. Yes, I have been expecting you. Using Hawk’s spy eye I have been watching you for some time.
Crinkle: What’s a spy eye?
Mr. E: It’s an infernal device that allows Hawk to watch people from a long way off. I’ll show you in a moment. First, I have to give you some vitally important information.
Mr. E: I, unfortunately, have to work for Hawk. The villains have kidnapped my children and will do them some harm if I do not cooperate.
Mr. E: As you’ve probably guessed, Hawk’s plan is to destroy every bit of the forest. They intend to build a huge industrial complex and complete it before anyone starts to question their activities.
Mr. E: Their aim is to be in control of the whole land. Power is what they want. I say ‘they’. In fact, Hawk is just one person.
Mr. E: I have never seen her and I don’t even know her name. Her strength lies in her band of Clunkers.
Mr. E: She is an exceptionally intelligent woman. She made the first Clunker but now they make themselves. Their brains are not as good as ours, but they are clever enough for her purposes.
Mr. E: The most frightening thing about the Clunkers is their evil nature. When they are first made, they are neither good nor bad. Their wickedness is added later.
Mr. E: Many years ago I discovered a strange kind of rock. I call it Mindstone. For some reason it is able to soak up the feelings of anyone who comes near it.
Mr. E: In one particular place the Mindstone is full of bad thoughts. I assume that, at one time, some particularly wicked people lived there.
Mr. E: Madam Hawk, as I like to call her, inserts blocks of Mindstone into the brains of the Clunkers. Although Mindstone is their strength, it is also their weakness.
Mr. E: Find Wibble and tell him about the Mindstone. He will know what to do.
Mr. E: Now you really should be going before someone finds you here.
